Hi, I’m Rose and I’m a dessert addict! I’m also a wife, mother, avid reader, jogger, cat owner, true crime fan, and now vegan baker….? (Never saw that last one coming!)
I started Feel Me Better, because I want to bake for the “me’s” out there. The other confectionery enthusiast! Those of us who always read the dessert menu first and stalk the bakery section of the store. (You know who you are!)
I love sweets! Like a lot! My rating of a meal can often hinge on the quality of the dessert- honestly, it’s the only reason to eat all my veggies.
So, when I started having some health issues and discovered that my symptoms were strongly connected an allergy to mammal meats and by-products and the milk that i loved were making me sick, I was devastated! My beloved dairy! My milk! My cheese! My yogurt! MY DESSERTS!!! Poof, all gone!
I cried…. A lot.
Now, living with food intolerances and allergies was nothing new to me. Throughout my life, I have learned to daftly navigate social gatherings and meals at friend’s homes avoiding most meat and egg based foods. but when my kiddo was diagnosed with a serious egg allergy, we went completely egg-free at home.
I’ve always had to avoid baked goods with lard and Gelatin and over the last few years, I have taught myself to make just about anything I couldn’t safely buy without eggs for my son-and some things I just did better. And after trying ALL the egg substitutions and learning what to use for what recipe, I got good. And no one could tell they didn’t have the egg.
But now, dairy too?! I felt defeated!
But then one night, while eating an egg and dairy free chocolate chocolate chip pancake with chocolate icing I made (it was a bad day, ok!) I realized I could handle this too! My pancake was fluffy, sweet, and tasted like eating chocolate cake. It didn’t taste “vegan.” I’m also a picky eater and I absolutely refuse to eat anything that tastes like coconut. After that night, I challenged myself to go big with flavors and recreate all of the wonderful desserts I love… with no weird aftertaste.
Now, I’m excited to share my creations with you!
The name Feel Me Better comes from something my kiddos would say as a toddler. Whenever he got an ouchy or was sick, he would cry out for something to “feel me better!”
Nothing helps feel me better than having a decadent treat at the end of the day. My menu is packed full of big, bold flavors- all made without animal by-products along with several gluten free options. These treats are perfect to suit your mood and to bring joy to any occasion whether you have dietary restrictions or not!
